Here is a collection of Bible verses to be used for meditating on the nature of God and are listed in no particular order. This is not a justification of this particular attribute of God. The verses listed below are not all of the verses in the Bible declaring His mercy. This is meant for personal meditation on the attributes of God and was developed with that focus in mind. Here, we focus on the mercy of God.
Scripture on the Mercy of God
Ps. 51:1-2 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
Ps. 103:10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.
Ps. 130:3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
Ps. 145:8-9 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
Lam. 3:31-32 For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
1 Pet. 5:10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Jon. 3:10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.
Rom. 3:23-24 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift.
1 Tim. 1:13-14 Though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Heb. 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Eph. 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved.
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.
1 Pet. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Mic. 7:18 Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.
James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Ps. 86:5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Lam. 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
